I've always hated even the idea of smoking.
Why?
I have what I call my "list" of personal health issues:
- heart surgery
- endocarditis (severe infection of the heart)
- brain surgery to repair an aneurysm
- stroke
- atrial fibrillation
- open-heart surgery
- Leukemia
Whew! Can I relate to health concerns or what?!
Because these issues started at such a young age, I like to say I have a "doctorate in being doctored!" I've experienced Western Medicine on all levels for my entire life, over 50 years.
Western Medicine is amazing when it comes to acute issues (usually through surgery, medications, or radiation).
However, Western Allopathic Medicine lags behind with respect to chronic issues or addressing things like habits, mindset, cause, motivation, and behavior change.
Basically, they'll maybe say...
"lose some weight, eat healthy, get some exercise, sleep more, have less stress"
And, of course, "QUIT SMOKING." But...they provide little or no guidance.
Then they send you out the door to figure it our yourself!
At first out of fear and a lack of information from my doctors, I have always been concerned with maintaining my health to the best of my ability.
I've been fascinated in learning everything I could about health and fitness, general self-improvement, and mind-set.
Western Medicine wasn't set-up for our success for things primarily involving mindset, habits, or unconscious behavior. Sure, it's changing a little, and, for things like smoking cessation, medication, nicotine patches, etc. CAN work for some people and to some degree.
But, it still doesn't address those underlying, unconscious reasons BEHIND the behavior.
I wanted to take both what I've learned about how the mind works and how we develop habits and undesired behaviors, and combine it with my personal experiences to help others improve their health, and their life.
